The proof of insurance is going digital
In recent years, many things in our lives have migrated to our phones including boarding passes, banking transactions and even doctor’s appointments!
Like it or not, we can’t deny the practical aspect of having everything at hand! The same phenomenon is now happening in the insurance industry. You know that pink insurance card that you receive by mail? It will now be available in digital format.

In September 2019, the Government of Ontario has stated that a digital proof of insurance is now accepted across the province. Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta and Quebec had done the same. Of course, other provinces have different rules and regulations, so you need to be careful to obey the law where you live and travel!
Here are some questions and answers about the digital proof of insurance:
Can I use my digital proof of insurance in place of the paper version?
Depends where you live!
In the provinces stated above, yes, the digital version of your proof of insurance is now valid. But you will still receive a paper copy of your proof of insurance, in case you need to travel outside of your province.
In other provinces, it is still not accepted as valid proof of insurance. But we’ll keep this article updated if it does!
